Andy left the room without looking back and steamed down the hallway leaving Wilson to lock up, and me to hobble after her. We heard Lyman tattling to Wilson about Andy grabbing his throat, choking him. Wilson said nothing. Slamming the door to the interrogation room put punctuation on Lyman’s rant.

After letting us through the locked outer hallway door, Andy turned to Wilson and asked, “Could you give us a minute?”

Wilson handed back her weapon and shrugged. He cracked a smile that told us he had been listening at the door and had enjoyed himself, and then he waddled away. When his considerable back end finally disappeared around the next corner, Andy stepped up and threw a hug around me.

“I’m shaking,” she said. “How dumb is that? I’m shaking. Some detective.”

“Dee, that was—Christ, I hate to use the word—awesome!” I pulled her in.

“I’ve never done anything like that!”

“No one ever deserved it more. How did you find his supplier? The counterfeits?”

“We haven’t yet.” She pulled away and looked at me with a feline smile. “The biggest liars fall for the biggest lies.”

“Wow. And all that about the money? About him pilfering?”

“I was guessing. But he had to be. It was the only thing that fit,” she said. She looked at her watch. “We need to get moving. I want to call Rosemary II. I don’t have much I can tell her, but I know she’s dying to hear something. And I need to talk to Tom.”

“Hey,” I said. I pulled her back in. “Proud of you.”

She squeezed me back. “We have to find her. We have to.”
